VooDoo Undercover Back-Seam Stocking Review

Hi everyone,

I’ve been wanting to do more vintage related reviews recently but don’t have the budget for new clothing most of the time. I have decided to do more stocking reviews! We don’t have a lot of places that sell stockings in NZ and it can be such a hassle ordering online. I’m going to be reviewing whatever I can find of seamed stockings here! I’ve previously reviewed Columbine Stockings here if you haven’t checked that out.

First I’m going to be starting off with these VooDoo Undercover Back-Seam Stockings which I spotted in Farmers for the first time about a month ago. Continue reading

Paranoire SYL+TERRY Lingerie Review

Hi all,

Welcome to another lingerie review, I feel like it’s been too long but let’s be honest even if I got lingerie once a week it would feel like too long! Today I’m going to be reviewing a set by ParaNoire Design, one of my favourite indie lingerie designers! I’ve previously reviewed some mystery panties by them here.

il_570xn-931588812_ntp9

As soon as I saw the picture of the underwear put up on Facebook I knew I had to have the set! I’m going to actually have to tell a short story about my order process so you can understand just how fab ParaNoire is!

So I first saw a post about the underwear on the 20th of Feb and I was instantly in love “So, if Piet Mondrian and Windows 95 had a secret lovechild and it turned out to be a panty… this might be it. I’m weirdly in love with this very 90ies print & palette” was the caption and yaaaassss. I adore the 90’s I think everything from that era is hideously gorgeous the clothing silhouettes, the prints, the music, Leonardo DiCaprio’s hair, I could go on!

Anyway on the 25th they posted about the pants again which jogged my memory! I had a voucher from them for a competition I entered so I decided to use it and bought them on the 26th. Then the next day I saw that they had posted about a matching bralette (!!!!) I commented saying essentially ‘I need this release it asap and I will buy’ and I got a response saying that the sample would be finished as soon as some new elastic arrived then I could make an order and have it shipped with the underwear! So it was listed and I bought it on the 29th and it was shipped by 00:30 on the 1st! Crazy fast and amazing service!

For reference I received it on the 17th of March so it was only 2 and a half weeks to ship from Germany which is pretty speedy for something to get to this little country! Anyway onto the actual review!

ParaNoire’s envelopes are made out of outdated topographic maps so they are recycled and recyclable, and the invoice sleeves are even 100% paper! The inner bags are plastic to make sure things don’t get wet but the inner brown paper is recycled and old wrapping paper is used sometimes too.

Here’s my nicely folded lingerie!

The lingerie is always made to order and it is sized by centimetre measurements. I bought the bra in the size 75/92 as my underbust measurement is 77cm and my bust measurement is 95cm so it was the closest option. I also bought the briefs in the size 106 as my hips measurement is 107cm. There are many sizes and they are so close together measurement-wise it’s so easy to get a great fit, there’s no guess work about ‘will a medium work?’ or anything.

First of this lingerie is so soft, it’s made from a cotton jersey which is great as it means this lingerie is also very breathable! The elastic is really nice and soft too with a plush back and there’s no cutting in at all. I have trouble with straps slipping off my shoulders as mine are quite narrow so the racerback is really nice.

Look at this print though! Isn’t it dreadfully perfect! I love all the colours in it and the variety means you can match it with so many other underwear if you haven’t got around to washing the matching underwear yet (I am so bad with washing). I also love that this is actually older fabric so it makes it extra special!

last.jpg

The labels are hand stamped with waterproof ink and I believe a typewriter is used to put the sizing on. They are very cute and a nice unique touch. They are easy to remove if you are inclined to do so as there is only a small part stitched down. I always leave my labels in and you don’t notice these at all throughout the day.

I like a very snug band and this bra is a little on the looser side. I find that it can ride up a bit during the day because of that. But it is exceedingly comfy and it’s not a big issue, just if you like a tighter band I suggest sizing down. This is the ultimate lounging set though, not one part of it will be uncomfortable no matter what you do!

I haven’t owned a pair of boyshort cut underwear for about 3 years and I am so happy to have these. It took me about an hour to get used to them as I was so used to regular cuts and high-waisted rises but now I am loving them! I love the partial leg coverage and I think I will definitely buy more in this cut.

Dun-dun! I ruined them! I handwash my lingerie most of the time but I have one awful pair of black underwear that will never stop seeping dye, I’ve washed them so much and they still do! Anyway I made the tragic mistake of leaving them in a wet pile before hanging them up. I’ve tried to remove the stain with a  couple of cleaners but without success. Oh well I guess I have to order another pair now ;).

And there we have it. I adore this lingerie and it is my #1 go to comfort lingerie at the moment. These are truly well made, I’ve never seen any deterioration from any of my ParaNoire pieces and they are constructed very well. You can buy it from the ParaNoire Design Etsy store and this particular set costs around $125 NZD, which is a great price to pay for something this comfy and well made.

Thank you to ParaNoire (Eva and Liz) for being so lovely to me all the time, and for being so quick with making and shipping the lingerie <3!!

Nichole de Carle Lingerie Review

Hi everyone, welcome to another lingerie review!

Today I will be reviewing two sets I bought from Nichole de Carle London, but first a little about the brand!

This is another ethical clothing brand which I am happy to announce! The brand was started by Nichole de Carle after she finished studying the Contour Design Course at de Montfort University. This is actually the same course Karolina Laskowska took who is another designer I admire. Nichole then went on to work for Alexander McQueen, Donna Karen New York and Pleasure State before setting up her own brand, what a ride! In an interview with Amara Nichole stated that her brand “care about the environment, using sustainable production methods and locally sourced fabrics where possible.” The garments I received were all made in Romania.

Now for the review!

I was so excited to purchase some Nichole de Carle Lingerie, they have been on my wishlist for a couple of years! I snagged these in the Winter Outlet Sale they had over Christmas time. I ordered them on the 30th of December and they were posted out on the 6th of January (they were closed until the 4th). I ordered them through YouShop as there was no New Zealand shipping option so they ended up arriving on the 19th of January. This still isn’t a huge wait, and I’ve had parcels from America take much longer to reach me.

ndcpack2

The lingerie arrived in two little neat parcels of black tissue with labeled stickers, love that black on black.

ndcpack3

The first set I bought was the Soiree Balconette Bra and Brief in Raspberry Diva/Nude. I love this colour as it’s a beautiful burgundy (a colour I am currently obsessed with).

ndcpack4

The second set is the Westminster Multiway Bra and Brief in Amazon/Black. The Westminster set is such a classic and I follow so many lingerie babes on Instagram who own this, but unfortunately I couldn’t afford the Brief with Braces at the time.

ndcburg3

I’ll talk firstly about the Soiree lingerie. This set is made from a ‘Raspberry Diva’ satin, which I think is definitely burgundy, as well as a ‘Nude’ mesh and matching ‘Nude lace, which again I think is more of a champagne colour. It is a fairly close nude shade for me though which is a nice change! I really like the lace overlay on the bra as you can really see the pattern of it. It is also finished with black elastics, binding and straps. I think this works with the overall colour scheme and it definitely doesn’t feel out of place.

ndcburg7

I love the detail on the back of the briefs! It’s so unique. It’s a light enough detail that I can’t feel it all when I’m wearing it. The contrasting panels are also really nice, and something which the brand is known for. The findings (the o-ring and strap sliders+hooks) are gold tones which works nicely with the champagne colours.

I bought the size large and I actually probably could have sized down in this set (which saddens me as I would have bought the high-waisted brief!). The measurement for the large is 42.5” which is my exact hip measurement but of course I should have accounted for stretch. I am on the lower end of the sizing in centimetres.

I bought the bra in a size 34D as I recently discovered all my 32D bras were too small, and they don’t sell a 32DD. The band fits me pretty well on the tightest hook, if I find it stretches out later on I can always take it in a bit but it’s fine for now. The bra is so comfortable, I’ve had no issues with uncomfortable underwires or digging-in elastic. I have to say I love the thickness of the bra elastics, it’s so wide and comfortable and it prevents digging in.

ndcburg4

This bra is made up of a 3-part foam cup. I am coming to despise moulded cups, and the 3 piece of this give it a nice shape. The main fabric is a SILK satin, how lush, and the bra cups are even lined with a black silk satin. This makes the bra sooo comfy on the inside of the cups. I don’t think I have any other lined-cup bras at the moment and I forgot how different the feeling was. I also think that the underwires are plastic instead of metal. They have a lot less flexibility than usual ones and are pretty bendable. I am a huge fan as they won’t dig in and make the bra more lightweight.

I paid £30 for this set which was £20 for the bra and £10 for the brief which is around $65NZD. The normal retail price for this set is around £185 I believe(I referred to their signature range as these pieces are no longer available on the site) which is $400NZD. Such a huge saving, which is great for someone like me! I’d love to be able to support designers and buy from them full price but unfortunately I cannot afford to. Hopefully one day my income will be enough that I can!

As you can see in the above picture the straps are wrapping quite far around my body and I can get a bit of dicomfort from having them dig in. This is actually the strap hooks as they have quite squared edges. I do have small shoulders which I think accounts for this, those straps are nowhere near parallel. The straps are detachable and it has the same construction and components as my Multiway bra, so it is possible to wear this strapless. As you can see this does create a bit of a fold in the cup for me. If it really becomes an issue I can always move the straps over to the centre a little.

I really love this set, it’s so comfy(and fits my new cup size) that I can see this becoming one of my ‘daily’ sets. I paid less for this than I would of a lower quality brand from my country and it’s great to be able to experience the more luxurious side of lingerie.

Now onto the Westminster!

ndcturq5

I was really drawn to this set by it’s cut-out detailing and bright colourway. This set is made from an ‘Amazon’ satin, which is a beautiful bright teal colour, and Black mesh and elastics. I love how bold this set is, and the teal is so striking.

ndcturq4

The cut-outs on these briefs is gooorgeoooous! It’s so interesting and unique, and is something that drew me to the brand. I was glad to see that design was not sacrificed on the smaller pieces – The Westminster Brief with Braces is to die for is something I need to own at some point. I really dislike it when the brief is designed as an offhand to match and all the focus is on the thong, from the front that’s what I thought this was! One note I feel like I should add is that you will probably will want to be partially hair free down there to get the full effect of the cut outs, it doesn’t look quite the same otherwise but you won’t need to be completely bare.

I bought the size large again and I found this one fit really well. The elastics are nice and comfy which is great in a piece so centred around the details. It’s always a shame when a piece of clothing is stylish yet uncomfortable – definitely not the case here.

I bought the bra in a size 34D too and it fits the same. The band is nice on the tightest hook and it again features nice deep elastics. Although this bra is a multiway there isn’t any silicone on the elastics, so when strapless it relies on it’s thick elastic so make sure you buy the right size. I haven’t had any slipping when wearing it strapless.

ndcturq3

This bra is very similarly constructed as the other and I believe it is the same cup and wing pattern as the other bra. The centre front features a strip of black non-stretch fabric running between the cups. This doesn’t have boning in it but it does have thickness so I think there may be a few layers in there. The strip running along the centre part of the cradle is the elastic which is used throughout the bra. I love this as you get the chance to feel just how soft the elastic is.

The only issue I’ve had is the straps! Mine keep slipping out and pinging off! This can be fixed by making the hook holes a little smaller which I think I will have to do. I’m not a fan of strapless bras so I might even just sew them in permanently too (they are also a little far over for my liking).

I paid £35 for this set which was £20 for the bra and £15 for the brief which is around $75NZD. The normal retail price for this set is around £185 as well(I referred to their current Westminster pieces) which is again about $400NZD. If you want to give the brand a go I suggest trying out some pieces from the outlet section, but if you can afford it the current collection pieces are to die for. So much lust for the Red/Black Westminster!

And that’s it folks!

I was really happy with my first experience with Nichole de Carle London and will definitely be back for more! Aside from my little strap issues the lingerie is unbelievably comfortable and a great way to have interesting pieces to wear on a regular basis. The Outlet section of the store has HUGE bargains, and I would definitely buy full price if it was within my means at the moment. Their bra size range is 30C-36C and bodywear sizes XXS-XL.
