I’m back with another Dita cardigan review! So I know it’s been quite a while since the Dita Von Teese Cardigan by Wheels and Dollbaby was released in the shade National Velvet, but as a few sizes are still available on the website I thought I’d share my thoughts and many pictures.
I also recently wore it and fell in love with it again so I wanted to take some nice photos of it. This is my 5th cardigan from the collaboration, I also have the Emerald Green, Rouge Noir, Gold and Black on Black colourways.
The popularity of these cardigans has waxed and waned since they were first released 10 years ago. At the moment the prices seem to be quite low on Ebay, so if you’ve been thinking of purchasing one this is probably an ideal time. I won an auction for an older colourway for only $140NZD including shipping, this is almost half retail price and practically unheard of! Some of the rarer ones have sold for up to $600 in the past.
I just love the luxurious details on these. With the finely pleated satin ribbon on the sleeves and collar to the velvet bow and buttons, it’s so much. They are so easy to wear for special events to as they are so easy to dress up. With black embroidery a black pencil skirt works so well!
I’m not one for lighter coloured clothes but I do love this. I often wear it with the Beasame American Beauty lipstick as the touch of pink matches the lilac well. Owning these cardigans has actually really helped me with tying nice bows! At first it could take me a good 5 minutes in a mirror trying to get something to look alright but now I feel like I’m a whizz!
I’ve found that the National Velvet and Black colourways released this year are a little softer than previous releases. My previous ones were already very comfortable, I’m not sure if it’s the dye or what but it’s great! It isn’t something a lot of people might notice or care about but since I’m always handling fabrics I do like it.
I do love that they are embroidered on the back. Sometimes it’s a bit disappointing when a great piece of clothing has detail on the front but is plain on the back. I found the embroidery on mine to be fine but I did see that a few people were having issues with thinner or patchy embroidery.
I always wear mine tucked it but it’s a pretty good length to have un-tucked. I’ve seen some women wear them out over black capris and it’s such a gorgeous look! I never really considered it myself but I might after these photos.
I wear the size 10 even though my bust measurement is between a 10 and 12. I very rarely wear it buttoned so it isn’t an issue for me. It’s also pretty stretchy
It’s still available on the Wheels and Dollbaby website here, but only in a size 16. There are still a few online if you hunt around as well. I think although they are expensive they are worth it. They are a great thickness for transition seasons like Spring and Autumn, and as I’ve mentioned so easy to dress up or down. They are so timeless and a great staple!
