Hi everyone,
I’m back with another foundation review! To be honest I went through a few months of trialling foundation after foundation trying to find something that works for me a few months ago. After hearing many rave reviews I splurged on the Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation. I bought this in the shade 0.5 which is described as “Fair porcelain with subtle pink undertone” but I still found it to be a tad too dark for me.
I took these photos a little while ago but I still use this foundation every so often and am actually almost out of it! The packaging is really gorgeous and although I’m not regularly using it, it is always displayed on my vanity.
So I start with my face prep, for this review I only used the Mecca Cosmetica ‘To Save Face Superscreen SPF 50’. I use this most days as it’s pretty hydrating and has a high SPF. I’m also using the NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer in the shade Chantilly. I’ve run out of this now and I am so sad as it is the perfect concealer for me!
I mix this foundation in about a 1:1 ratio with my L.A Girl White foundation, so it is significantly dark on me. I use about 1 full pump of each. First I mix the foundation and check it on my face to see if the colour is right then I spread it over just with my fingers.
I blend the foundation into my skin using a damp Beauty Blender (believe it or not this one started out bright red). I really like the finish this provides as it’s not streaky at all, with my dry skin it also adds just a touch of moisture.
I powder my face completely with a powder puff and I use a mix of the Ben Nye Cameo and Super White face powders. This really helps to lock my foundation in place and keep it completely matte all day. I always like to powder around my eyes first, do my eyeshadow and then powder the rest of my face. I do this so that the foundation can start to settle into the skin and dry down before I apply powder.
Now I have completely finished my makeup including highlight, blush and contour which blended in really well. As you can see this foundation provides a really nice smooth finish and it’s a very high coverage. I can still see a few of my more major freckles through the foundation but it is definitely the most full coverage I have encountered.
Now the wear test! In the below pictures I have worn the foundation for about 4 hours. As you can see everything is still looking pretty perfect! It’s comfortable and doesn’t exaggerate any of my lines so far.
9 hours later and it’s still looking fairly good. My face still looks smooth but it’s wearing a little on the tip of my nose and on my chin. This is to be expected from almost a ‘full’ day of wear. I often touch both of these places, and I really like that it hasn’t degraded or come off completely.
12 hours later! This is about the usual length of time my makeup is on for in a day. There is honestly not a lot of difference between the 9-12 hour shots. Around my pores is looking a little more textured and it’s worn a bit more from my chin. It hasn’t totally worn off under my glasses either which is impressive! I often get totally bare patches so it is a good testament to the staying power!
The Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation retails for around $72NZD from Mecca. This is pretty pricey compared to most foundations I use but I have found because of it’s concentration of pigment and the fact I blend it with another one it goes pretty far. I think I used it regularly for about 3 months and now I reserve it for special occasions or days I need my foundation to last all day. I haven’t repurchased it yet because it’s a bit more than I can afford at the moment and despite having a pink undertone, once it oxidised it looked a bit too yellow on me and I am usually neutral toned so I’m a little undecided on if I will.
If you are looking for an intensely full coverage foundation that will last all day and stay matte I definitely think you should check this out. If you can get to a Mecca store then they can usually shade match you and I think they often give samples out if you need one.
