On Sunday morning I woke up and stared at my bra rack deciding which one I wanted to wear. Then it hit me that I really didn’t want to wear any of them! My What Katie Did cathedral bras were drying from a wash and I was partway through repairing the lace on my Parisienne Longline bra.
I am a huge lingerie lover and I didn’t know what to think when suddenly I didn’t like any of the gorgeousness surrounding me. The bras I have in my current size have all been bought in the last 2 years, and although that doesn’t seem like a long time my daily style is different to how I dressed then. 2 years ago I was also only 17 and still in high-school so it’s no wonder! I used to swing between goth and vintage styles daily but these days I am dressed vintage styled 99% of the time (but that doesn’t stop most of my wardrobe still being black). Now that I dress differently I am more interested in bullet bras and nylons than push up bras and pantyhose.
So today I am sharing with you my current lingerie lusts, the things I desire to be on my body under my clothes right this second. They are mostly vintage inspired pieces but some are just stunning things I cannot resist.
If you are a size 32D/10D then follow me on social media, as I think I’m going to be having a little bra clearout to declutter and make way for new pieces.
I have previously talked about my love for the ‘Glorified Girl’ range by Dita Von Teese in a previous blog post. I so far have the Strapless Plunge Bra, the Suspender Belt and the Bikini Brief. I would like to collect the Full Brief and Longline Bra so I can have a set with more coverage, and also Longline bras are the best. I hate all my old low rise underwear and I just feel that all briefs should be high rise!
I’ve had the Madame X black Underwired Bra (now too small for me) and Bikini Briefs as well as the white Non-Wired Bra and High Rise Briefs. My white set is by far my favorite and Madame X is definitely not a style to be overlooked. I bought my bra in a 32C but because of the soft cups the sizing is flexible, and because the briefs are adjustable at the waist it means you can still have a good fit if you are a curvy lady. I really need to get the pieces in all colourways – so far there have been 6 so I have a lot of catching up to do! It’s nice to have a comfy set of lingerie which is also edgy and makes you look amazing.
Next up is this breathtaking set by What Katie Did. The Merry Widow is actually a vintage reproduction from an original garment but updated to use modern materials. I really like all of the Gwendoline pieces and would probably purchase the Bra, Merry Widow and Panty Girdle to mix and match. I would also buy extra detachable suspender straps so that I could add more loops to the pieces and have more suspension.
I’m really into longline bras at the moment as they are so comfortable and mean you don’t get any lumps which tend to happen if you wear stretchy tops and are a little squishy. This Kate Longline Cone Bra seems like a great everyday basic which I could with any of my black underwear. Also having front hooks and eyes would make it so much easier to put on. It also has nice soft points so you’re not likely to put an eye out with it.
Yet more What Katie Did (but can you have enough?)! This time it’s the Carole set which I think looks gorgeously dark and comfortable. We are entering the warmer months at the moment and I could definitely see myself lounging on the couch wearing only this in the height of summer. The Cone Bra would be a nice silhouette to have in my arsenal and French Knickers are so exciting to wear. I’d probably have to ask them about sizing for them though due to the large difference between my waist and hips.
I own the Pinup set of lingerie which My Retro Closet released a while ago and have been meaning to add this updated set to my collection. The contrasting red satin gives a delightful pop of colour and the circle stitching is a great detail. This set looks so comfortable I could quite happily lounge in this on a fur rug, but I could also see myself wearing this under floaty chiffon blouses. It’s nice to see a vintage inspired piece which is so easy to wear and fits in well with a modern lifestyle.
I haven’t actually seen any vintage ladies talk about Carnival Bras so I’m definitely interested in trying this one out. Yet another front closure longline one. I like the lace and paneling detailing of this bra. Although I’m a sucker for black, I love the look of the Champagne coloured one too. There’s a great close up photo on HerRoom of this bra and I really like how traditional it looks. It also seems to give the model a nice subtle pointed shape. This brand has been around since 1947
I already have the Retrolution Plunge Bra and Waist Cincher but recently I saw a picture on instagram of the swoon-worthly Lady Bellentina trying on the Retrolution Corset and now I am desperate to acquire it. Although I tend to be a bit corset-snobby I do love how the busk works on this piece, and it’s interesting to see on a softer garment. I think this would be a great piece to ease people into both corsets and longline bras. It has the busk fastening at the front as well as hook and eyes at the back. If you didn’t like one of these you could probably take it to someone to get altered, or do it yourself if you’re a dab hand at sewing.
This lingerie set was actually just listed today but I knew I had to add it to the list. I already have other pieces by Paranoire and they fit superbly. This is another set which would be great for lounging and also for living in. I would love to see a boudoir shoot with this (perhaps I will have to arrange one). Also that solid silk and swiss dot contrast, that is a winning combo!
Now we are moving onto the more modern pieces I desire, I discovered this one, thanks again, to Lady Bellentina. This set is also available in Black and Navy, but this Emerald colour is so gorgeous and different. I might need it in all colourways though. It would look great under the Emerald Green Dita Von Teese Cardigan by Wheels and Dollbaby worn with a large keyhole. I love the sleek strappy details and I think this would look incredible under a black lace top as well. Also excuse me zip front fastening you are far too exciting (pssst, the briefs have a zip up back 😮 )
To finish off my list I have the Semi-Bespoke Sayuri set by Karolina Laskowska. You can bet if I ever come into a large sum of money somehow this is what I’ll be spending it on. The strappy detailing combined with the vintage kimono silk and sheer mesh is almost too much. I adore that you get to pick your fabric from a variety, it makes it that much more special and worth the price. The waist of the briefs is adjustable, again a huge plus for curvy ladies. There is actually so much which can be adjusted in this set! The Sayuri bra also features interesting sizing as the back has adjustable straps, allowing 6 inches of adjustability. This means a perfect band fit as you can adjust it to fit you which is great for people like me who float between band sizes. This design is so unique and eye catching that it’s hard not to feel like you need. But I feel like if I owned it I would simultaneously never wear it and wear it everyday without clothing.
So there’s the list of lingerie currently on my lust-list. A couple of years ago I just wanted all the lingerie I ever found attractive but now I’m leaning toward pieces that fit in better with my lifestyle. I also like being able to support ethical manufacturing. Katie of What Katie Did works closely with all the factories which manufacture their lingerie. My Retro Closet, Paranoire and Karolina Laskowska lingerie are handmade by the designer which is great to be able to support.
